Maui Tomorrow Encourages Support for a Limit on Maui County Transient Accommodations

Hotel Construction

SAVE THE DATE!

On Friday April 22nd, at 9 AM, the Maui County Council will decide whether or not to refer a draft bill to establish a limit on the number of transient accommodations allowed in Maui County. If the resolution passes, a draft of the bill will be sent to the Maui, Molokai and Lānaʻi planning commissions, and to the three advisory committees in Hana, South Maui, and Pā’ia-Ha’ikū.
Maui County already has more than enough visitor accommodations, and it is time to diversify our economy, so that we won’t be as vulnerable the next time there’s a downturn in tourism. We can expect strong opposition to this bill from the hotel development industry, so it will be critical to have community members voicing their support. As we approach April 22nd, Maui Tomorrow will be sending more information about the bill and how to make your voice heard.
