[The Council] agreed to include a measure to require labeling of genetically engineered products as part of the Hawaii State Association of Counties’ package of proposed bills for the 2012 legislative session…

Council Member Elle Cochran brought the measure before council members, saying it arose from concerned citizens who “believe in their right to choose.”

“Everybody has the right to know what they feed themselves and their families,” she said.
