Moses Medeiros,of Applied Technical Services in Kihei, told the Maui News that he is consulting on a project to explore building a 30-acre PV with low-profile, mini wind turbines  in a former Upcountry pineapple field.

According to the Maui News, the anonymous group is keeping their identities secret until their permits and contracts are in place with the state, Maui County and Maui Electric

They’re also looking for another $6 million investment to complete the project’s first phase.

The proposed PV panels can generate even on a cloudy day, with special optics, Medeiros said.   In order to deal with PV’s problem of losing power at night, Medeiros’ team wants to install a number of horizontal mini-wind turbines, which would act as a backup generator.

The power-generating facilities would be located in gulches, shielding them from the view of passers-by. So, the 20-foot-tall rotating portion of the structure, a version of which can be seen on the University of Hawaii Maui College campus, would go unnoticed, Medeiros said.
