Maui County: RFP for Waste to Energy at Pu’unene Landfill

Maui County is looking for a developer to finance, plan, design, permit, construct and own a waste-to-energy project at the Central Maui Landfill in Puunene, the biggest of four county-run landfills on the Valley Isle.

The plan would include diverting nearly 500 tons of waste from the county landfill and turning it into energy that would have the capacity to power up more than 10,000 homes.

It would be similar to Oahu’s H-Power waste-to-energy plan
