HONOLULU – Hawaii Electric Co. says it’s seeking suppliers for 42 million gallons of biofuels to run its Kahe Power Plant, the largest generating station in Hawaii.
The utility said Friday it may award multiple contracts, so potential suppliers who are unable to supply the full amount may propose to supply lower volumes. It’s seeking fuel from organic or waste material that can be blended with low-sulfur fuel oil.
The deadline for proposals is July 29. The utility must submit any contracts to the Hawaii State Public Utilities Commission for approval.

Calculations show that there is no way that we can physically grow enough biofuels on Hawaii land to feed the predominantly diesel generators of HECO and MECO.
And if we DID use all our arable land to fuel a significan number of generators, WHAT WOULD WE EAT?
So we know where this “biofuel” is going to come from: Malaysia and South America.
And we residents will be paying a huge jump in our utility bills to pay for a costly IMPORTED oil. Additionally we’ll be responsible for the destruction of thousands of acres of rain forest.
We need a law that says imported “biofuel” does not count towards renewable energy. Because it is for sure not “renewable”.
