Council Defers Vacation Rental Bill

Maui County has 1,100 to 1,500 unpermitted vacation rentals, according to estimates by the Maui Vacation Rental Association. Councilmember Couch has proposed capping the number of legal vacation rentals at 400.  Planning Director Spence said his department issued only 28 warnings about vacation rentals and conducted 78 site inspections in 2011.

The draft bill proposes that  a paid ad for a vacation rental would be taken as evidence, until proved otherwise, of an illegal operation and requires any advertising for a legitimate vacation rental to include a permit number

I’m for limiting vacation rentals and preserving ag land for agriculture.Developers/realtors buy ag land and subdivide it to build luxury homes with TVR’s
on it.Big homes with alot of grass some fruit trees commonly banana trees. And they call themselves as farmers.Seriously!
