The State Land Use Commission met in Kahului and approved two significant and large land use changes. These represent major entitlements for the respective developers.
1) Maui Research and Technology Park
The LUC reclassified 253 acres of agricultural land into the urban land-use classification for the purpose of allowing the Maui Research and Technology Park to expand and to build 1,250 residential units, a 150 bed hotel, and 2,000,000 sq. ft. of office, business, commercial and industrial use. This adds 253 acres of urban land to the Maui Research and Technology Park’s existing 158 urban acres.
In addition to an expanded Lipoa Street intersection, there will be two brand new Maui R&T Park intersections on Piilani Highway: one north of Lipoa near the new Kihei High School; and another to the south near the Maui County sewage plant.

2. Industrial Land off of Mokulele Hwy. near the ‘Drag Strip’ in the area known as Pulehunui
The LUC reclassified 86 acres of agricultural land into the urban land-use classification for the purpose of allowing a variety of heavy industrial uses.
